Cartref means "home" in Welsh, and home is at the heart of everything we do.
Our Story
Cartref Home Pet Care was founded by Dr Jenny Kurtz-Shefford because she saw how stressful and distressing the final visit to a veterinary clinic could be, not just for families, but for the pets themselves.
The name “Cartref” is the Welsh word for “home”, capturing the essence of what we do. We bring professional, compassionate veterinary care to your front door, so your pet can spend their final moments in the place they know and love best.
Based in Neath, we serve families across South Wales, from Swansea and Port Talbot to Cardiff, Bridgend, Llanelli, and beyond.

Dr Jenny Kurtz-Shefford is the founder and sole veterinary surgeon at Cartref Home Pet Care. After graduating from the University of Liverpool in 2017 with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc), Jenny went on to gain her Certificate of Advanced Veterinary Practice (CertAVP) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Veterinary Professional Studies (PGCertVPS). She is a Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (MRCVS). Jenny founded Cartref, which means "home" in Welsh, because she believes every pet deserves a peaceful, dignified goodbye in the place they feel safest and most loved.
Graduated from University of Liverpool in 2017.
