What Families Say

We are honoured to have helped these families through one of the hardest times in their lives.

Dr Jenny was incredibly compassionate and gentle with our Bella. She made the hardest day of our lives as peaceful as it could possibly be. Bella fell asleep in her favourite spot by the fire, surrounded by the whole family. We can't thank Cartref enough.

Frequently Asked Questions

We understand you may have questions. Here are some of the most common ones we receive.

Home pet euthanasia is a compassionate service where a veterinary surgeon visits your home to help your pet pass peacefully in familiar surroundings. Your pet stays relaxed in their favourite spot, surrounded by the people they love, without the stress of a car journey or unfamiliar clinic.

This is one of the hardest questions any pet owner faces. Signs that your pet may be suffering include loss of appetite, difficulty breathing, inability to stand or walk, persistent pain despite medication, loss of interest in activities they once enjoyed, and incontinence. We offer a free phone consultation to help you assess your pet's quality of life. There is no pressure, and we're here to support you whatever you decide.

When we arrive, we'll take time to meet your pet and your family. We first give a gentle sedation so your pet falls into a deep, peaceful sleep. This usually takes just a few minutes. You can stay with your pet, stroke them, and talk to them throughout. Once they're fully asleep and comfortable, we administer the final injection, which is completely painless. The whole process is calm, gentle, and unhurried.

Absolutely. We encourage you to be with your pet if you feel able to. You can hold them, stroke them, and talk to them. Family members, children, and other pets are welcome to be present too. There is no time pressure. Take as long as you need.
